Although Cheryl is well known for her unique layered paper pastel work, the abstracts
are quickly becoming well known and sought after by corporate and residential
clients. The abstracts are giving me the wonderful opportunity to explore emotions on a grand scale. Each work is hand crafted from the very start. The 1 ½" stretcher bars are cut and joined to the size I feel the work needs and is never constricted to the limiting standard sizes. The image is continued around on the side of the deep frame making these works true gallery wraps. The gallery wrap technique provides a finished look without the need for framing. In fact I recommend that these pieces not be framed. Raw canvas is stretched then several coats of gesso are applied. Gesso is an artist’s primer coat that seals the canvas and provides a "tooth" to the surface that promotes the adhesion of the paints. There are hours of work involved before the painting ever begins! |
